About the School

Creating a joyful first dance experience for young learners.

What began as a childhood passion for dance has grown into a journey of teaching, mentoring, and sharing the art of Bharatanatyam with the next generation.

At Vyami, students are guided through a supportive and structured learning environment that nurtures confidence, discipline, creativity, and self-expression.

Classes build strong foundations in adavus, mudras, rhythm, abhinayam, posture, flexibility, and stage confidence — while fostering an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Bharatanatyam.

Whether taking their first steps or advancing in their dance journey, every student is encouraged to learn at their own pace, with patience, dedication, and joy.

Beyond Classical Training

While strongly rooted in the traditions of Bharatanatyam, students at Vyami also have opportunities to explore diverse styles of dance that resonate with today’s generation.

Through ongoing training, students engage with Bollywood, folk, semi-classical, and fusion choreography — building versatility, creativity, and stage confidence as they continue to deepen their classical foundation.

Meet the Guru

Preserving Tradition Through a New Generation of Artistry

Yamini is a Chennai-based Bharatanatyam dancer and the Founder-Director of Vyami. Her artistic journey began at the age of four and has been shaped by years of dedication, discipline, and continuous learning in the classical arts.

She trained under Guru Selvi Jayasundari Mahadevan — disciple of Smt. Indira Rajan — in the esteemed Vazhuvoor bani of Bharatanatyam, and further expanded her practice under established gurus in nattuvangam and other facets of classical performance.

At the age of thirteen, she performed her Arangetram in the divine presence of Thillai Natarajar at Chidambaram — a milestone that continues to inspire her artistic path.

Through Vyami, she blends authenticity, discipline, and artistic expression — carrying forward the timeless beauty of Bharatanatyam for the next generation of dancers.
